An autumn woodland scene. There are brown leaves covering the woodland floor. This is taken from the highest part of the woodland and we can see glimpses of the oldest part of the woodland from there. The trees have a range of autumn colours on their leaves.

Nature Made This
Two jagged outcrops of rocks. The closer one is covered in scrub while the further away one is covered in grasses, except for a lone tree on the right hand side flank. To the left of the second outcrop the sea is pale and turquoise, whereas the rest of the sea is darker blue.

An amazing sea stack and ledge near Noss Head in the Scottish Highlands, Out of the pale blue water a ledge appears, and to its right there's a cliff face. Nestled on the cliff face are nesting sea birds.

Always look back - you never know what you'll see. Here we have amazing layering in the sedimentary sea stacks. We can see where the sea has gradually eroded the stacks away. In the distance we see the ruin of a castle.

Your eye is drawn to a distant horizon, but between you and that horizon is the expanse of Loch Sheil, surrounded by mountains on either side, leading you away from safe shores. This is Loch Sheil near Fort William, in the Scottish Highlands. On this shore Bonnie Prince Charlie started his campaign in the mid 1700s.

This isn't a painting - this is a photo of a cutting through a rock face. Here we get a small insight into the history of this cliff face. We see near vertical lines that were caused by the blasting process. That reveals amazing colours and textures where different rock types ended up cutting through each other to create this amazing colourful rock. The rocks, are basalt, granite and gneiss. This colourful rock is near Laxford Bridge in the Scottish Highlands beside the route of the North Cost 500.
Deep in woodland is a secret pond. Very few people know its there, and most walk on by. Its surrounded by trees and full of aquatic plants. Here it's in the middle of winter and is frozen.
A relatively rare environment of bog land in the Flow Country located in the Scottish Highlands. Here we see a landscape that is covered in a carpet of small ponds. Peeping through the surface of each of the ponds are little shoots of Bog Bean. In the distance we see this land is overlooked by a mountain with a threatening sky overhead.
On the west coast of the Highlands of Scotland is an area called Kintail. there are 5 large mountains which are known as The Five Sisters of Kintail. This is a stunning photo of the Five Sisters of Kintail shrouded in mist.
Imagine walking along the sea shore. Then following the path round a small cliff to come face to face with this stunning scene. This is Clashach Cove, near Hopeman in Moray, Scotland. And it’s a stunning example of a faultline cutting through layered sandstone. A must for geology buffs.
A beautiful sunny day with blue sky and small white puffy clouds in the sky. You're walking along the golden sand and listening to the gentle waves lapping on the shoreline. In the distance you can see the small Moray town of Lossiemouth.

Sedimentary rock formation just off the Scottish Coast at Portnockie in Moray. If you look carefully through the hole in the rocks you will see a boat. This is called Bow Fiddle Rock.
The Blackwater River at Little Garve is rushing over the tilted rocks on the river bed, slowly eroding the away.
While out for a walk along a beach I came across the most wonderful piece of geology which I had to photograph. This is a piece of rock which is built up by a sequence of different rock layers, giving a range of colours. The rocks have then been tilted. This design is a slice of geology taken from a rock formation (the Rosemarkie Metamorphic Complex) at Rosemarkie beach in the Scottish Highlands. Doesn’t nature give us the most amazing things?

I decided that in 2023 I was going to focus my attentions on our local Community Woodland for inspiration for my photography.  I have now included them in both my Redbubble and Pixels shops.  I hope you enjoy them.

Very often we don't pay attention to the detail of things around us. This is the intricate pattern of steelwork inside a structure. We also see ladders, horizontal beams, and glimpses of the outer cladding.
Always look back - you never know what you'll see. Here we have amazing layering in the sedimentary sea stacks. We can see where the sea has gradually eroded the stacks away. In the distance we see the ruin of a castle.
In Carrbridge, in the Scottish Highlands, there's an old, historic packhorse bridge. Although it's now a ruin this bridge used to be the main route to cross the River Dulnain.
This bridge was build in the 1800s to allow people to cross the River Dulnain. Today, this historic bridge remain standing. This angle is slightly different to the normal photos you'll we as it is taken from river level and slightly to the side.
The lighthouse stands solid and trustworthy against a pale blue, lightly clouded sky with the waves gently lapping at the beach. In the rock below we can see caves that have been carved out by the relentless sea. Covesea, near Lossiemouth in Moray, Scotland

An old, deserted, ruined and isolated bothy sits nestled in the lee of a hill. In front of the bothy is a calm loch.
Nestled between the hills is the historic Glenfinnan Viaduct, which is better known to many people for its role in the Harry Potter films.
Where is that train rushing too? What adventures await its passengers? A train crossing the Culloden Viaduct.
Take a wander down to the harbour and you never know what you'll find. On this occasion it was a pier that was full of neatly stacked creels. In the background we have the sea and behind that some hills.
In a small woodland at Balnuaran of Clava, near Culloden beside Inverness in the Scottish Highlands, are a series of Bronze Age cairns. This image shows one of the stone cairns. In front of it is a standing stone.
Follow the path to your favourite seat, nestled beside some very large rhododendrons. Breathe deeply and smell the fragrance of the surrounding flowers. Rest a while, and then continue through the tree and shrub paradise.

A peaceful wildflower garden teaming with all different colours. Behind it, is a stone wall with a doorway, enticing you to go through it. Where does it go?
This river embankment really caught my attention. Amongst the trees at the top of the image are glimpses of yellow flowers. These then blend into a patch of white flowers which give way to brightly coloured pink and red flowers. It left me with the impression of a river of flowers meandering their way from the top to the bottom.
Sometimes, when you're walking, something just catches your eye. This was a pond that was surrounded by lots of different tree species. But in amongst them was a red rhododendron reflected in the surface of the pool.
You're walking through the garden, and then your feet lead you to a path. Before you even look at the path you smell the heady scent of lavender. There bordering each side of the path are masses of by lavender plants, and the path leads you to a garden bench.
We have a mix of colourful trees and bushes giving us a foreground of different shades of green and copper. Behind, we catch a glimpse of the sea.

In our village there's a patch of land that has been planted up with a mix of wild flowers. Every year, it looks different, and there's a different plant mix. This gives a particularly beautiful mix of colours.

I was out for a walk and came across this enchanting scene. There was a massive patch of bluebells growing the the shade of an old beech tree.

This very vibrant and striking image is of lilies standing on a lush lave background. I have used digital art techniques to recolour the lilies so they are almost blue, with the stamens appearing in the same colour as the background.

One of my favourite wild flowers is Red Campion. I’ve taken inspiration from some Red Campion flowers, which have a variety of shades of pink, and have stretched that theme to pinks, purples and purplish-blue

I was looking at the flowers in my garden one spring and was delighted by the brightness of the colours. There was a mix of red, yellow, lilac and magenta flowers enhanced by vibrant green foliage. I decided to take photos of the flowers and to mash then together in fractured areas of colour. I hope you enjoy the result.

I was experimenting with some digital art techniques on a photograph and came across this effect. I thought it would look particularly pleasing if I applied it to some flowers. These are lilies which have been modified to blend into the blue background.
